Let me start with this… it is absurd.

Texas has more respect for their guns than its citizens. I find it quite funny that they respect The Second Amendment more than the First. [A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.]

Why is religion such a big deal to me?

It imposes its morals on others.
It is against equal freedom.
Churches don’t pay taxes while hard working people do.
And for Americans reading this…
[Note the Boy Scouts of America which is a tax payer funded institution does not allow Atheists to participate in its program]
Also what happened to I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic, for which it stands, one Nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all?
Under God wasn’t added until 1954. And what about in God we trust on money? It wasn’t added to bills until 1957. Was there a memo stating that the USA turned into a theocracy?

A fact…
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that expressly prohibits the United States Congress from making laws “respecting an establishment of religion” or that prohibit the free exercise of religion, infringe the freedom of speech, infringe the freedom of the press, limit the right to peaceably assemble, or limit the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances. [Note again that churches in the USA get more respect then the citizens and have more privileges. Note also that because of a preacher didn’t like what he heard one day on the radio and instead of turning the channel or turning it off he complained and the FCC ended up coming along to restrict freedom of speech in the media. Yes, for those of you unaware, The United States Of America does not have freedom of speech in the Press/Media . Seeing double standards is not difficult.]

As an Atheist why should I care about other people’s religion?
Religion matters to me as an Atheist because billions of innocent people have DIED in its name and still are today. The Crusades 1,000,000+ killed. The 2nd Century battle for the Jewish Holy Land 2,000,000 killed. The 16th Century French Wars on Religion 4,000,000 killed. The Holocaust 11,000,000 killed. The Thirty Year War 11,500,000 killed. The list goes on and on………………………

Religious groups receive freedoms that most don’t. Illegal substances are allowed to be used in church if it is part of the religious ritual yet the majority is against marijuana use even for medical purposes. [Once again you can see another double standard!]It pushes to restrict funding for Science and Technology. Technology that saves and assists our lives daily and Science that has provided us with among other things clean drinking water. Religious groups try to condemn condom usage in a world where Aids is on a rise. They also push to teach Creationism in schools along side Evolution. Creationism is not a scientifically accredited study. [There is no controversy to be taught!] It also is pushing for abstinence only education which contributes to the spread of disease as well as unwanted & teenage pregnancies. Religion also robs children of free thinking [indoctrination]. It teaches them to see things in black and white. It often refers to its followers as sheep. [That is just weird.] Religion is sexually oppressive. It imposes all kinds of psychological turbulence on its members. Sex is a natural instinct and consenting adults are made to feel ashamed and guilty for having it without a ring around their finger. Religion is also oppressive to women, homosexuals, non-believers and believers of another religion. North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Maryland have laws that prevent an Atheist to hold public office. [Note: see The First Amendment again and notice the double standard.]

Some say that we should set back and let things work out for themselves but I say it has been thousands of years and this problem has still not been fixed. Religion is delusion on a massive scale.

So why do I care about other peoples religion? My answer, why don’t you?

Onze liefde is sterk genoeg: wij hebben het niet nodig om vierentwintig uur per dag op elkaars lip te zitten. Het is niet wat ik wil. En ik moet het ook niet willen, omdat dat toevallig het algemeen geldende norm is. Wij gaan tegen de stroom in. Ik probeer dicht bij mezelf te blijven, bij wat ik wil en belangrijk vind in het leven. Ik wil graag een relatie, maar ik wil niet de sleur die daar vaak bij hoort. Ik zeg niet dat samen-wonen automatisch betekent dat je relatie inkakt, maar ik weet uit mijn verleden dat het moeilijker is om het spannend te houden als je elkaar zo vaak ziet. Vroeger heb ik samengewoond en toen ben ik mezelf kwijt geraakt. Ook zijn er geen verwachtingen van mijn partner heb ik de neiging om een rol aan te nemen. De lieve vriendin: dat alles regelt en vraagt nooit om hulp. Uiteindelijk kan ik dat rol niet meer spelen en vervolgens ben ik mezelf niet meer. Ik vind dat mijn vriend meer aan mij heeft wanneer ik mezelf ben.

Ik krijg vaak de indruk dat mensen vinden dat ik radicaal ben, maar ik vind het juist radicaal om met twee kinderen en een hond in een woonwijk te gaan wonen. Ik snap niet hoe mensen dat uithouden. Ik ben gelukkig zonder koophuis, hypotheek, trouwring en geen auto voor de deur. Ik ben happy! Ik doe wat ik wil en ik ga en sta waar ik wil. Wat niet hetzelfde is als asociaal, ik houd wel degelijk rekening met anderen. Ik moet me vaak verdedigen, daar ben ik nog niet aan gewend. Ik heb niet altijd zin om mezelf te verklaren. Alles wat afwijkt van de norm is blijkbaar verdacht.

De dingen die ik op mijn twintigste belangrijk vond, zijn dat voor mij nog steeds. De buitenwereld vind dat misschien onvolwassen, maar ik zie het als trouw blijven aan mezelf. Geen burgerlijk leventje. Andere mensen worden er vast gelukkig van, ik niet. Alhoewel, ik zie heel veel ongelukkige mensen die denken dat ze niets aan hun situatie kunnen veranderen, terwijl ze ‘m zelf hebben gecreëerd. Ze hebben zichzelf klemgezet en vervolgens klagen ze dat ze klem zitten. Mijn antwoord erop is “doe er iets aan en ga eens zelfstandig nadenken.” Ik verbaas me soms over al de meelopers. Bepaalde kleding dragen omdat die in de mode is, dingen doen omdat het zo hoort; als je daar op een bepaalde leeftijd nog niet overheen bent gegroeid, moet je toch eens naar jezelf kijken. Wie is dan onvolwassen?

Het is lekker om mijn eigen plek te hebben. Mijn huis is echt m’n plekje! Ik heb het helemaal ingericht zoals ik zelf wil. Ik schilder wat ik wil en wanneer ik dat wil. Hoe meer kleur hoe beter. Mijn vriend vindt het bij mij passen, al zou hij het zelf niet in zijn huis willen. Die houding typeert onze relatie: we hebben respect voor elkaar en willen elkaar niet veranderen, ook niet stiekem.

Ik woon bewust niet samen, heerlijk!
